Nick Baumgartner has been called the pride of the Upper Peninsula when he became the
oldest Olympic snowboarder at 40 yrs old, representing TEAM USA at the 2022 Beijing
games in snowboardcross (SBX). The age-defying athlete took GOLD in the snowboardcross
mixed team event with Lindsey Jacobellis. He wore his heart on his sleeve, showing the
world that age is but a number.
A proud Yooper, Nick has been part of the US Snowboard team for over 16 years as 4-time
Olympian, with his first Olympic Games in 2010. Nick is also an X-Games gold and silver
medalist.
A former All-America high school wrestler and college football linebacker at Northern
Michigan University, Nick’s need for adrenalin off the snow has allowed him to have a
career in motor sports too, having participated in the TRAXXAS Torc Series, winning 2011
Rookie of the Year, and later racing in the Super Truck Series and Baja Series.
Often called the Rad Dad, Nick’s pride is his 18-year-old son Landon, who is his biggest
supporter and will be a freshman at Michigan State this fall. In the off-season Nick works in
construction and has been a union concrete laborer to support his his athletic dreams,
dubbing him the Blue Collar Olympian.
Nick is here to share his personal story of how perseverance should always be at the
forefront of accomplishing your dreams and that setting goals should never end.
