Jesse W. WrightAssistant Professor of Economics, NMU and Retired Commercial and Development Banker  received a doctorate in economics from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.  Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Foreign Service at the Agency for International Development serving in Washington, DC and at the American Embassy, Bangkok, Thailand. He later worked at Continental Illinois National Bank in Chicago and other international commercial banks as an emerging market country risk analyst for Africa/Middle East and Latin America.  He was a financial sector specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank of Washington, DC working on the banking systems and capital markets of Latin American countries. He retired from the IDB and moved to Marquette where he continued to advise governments, banks, stock exchanges, and supervisory authorities on macro-prudential and regulatory matters. Spanning a 40-year career, he has lived and worked in Asia, Africa/Middle East, Europe and Latin America and has visited 106 countries around the globe.  Dr. Wright was an Assistant Professor of Economics at NMU in 2009-2010 and again in 2019-2020.
