Erica Huss is the Warden of the Marquette Branch Prison. She originates from the small UP town of Ironwood, Michigan, where her parents and extended family still reside. She is an Alumni of Northern Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Psychology with a group minor in Criminal Justice and Juvenile Delinquency in 1991. Erica began her career with the Michigan Department of Corrections in February of 1994 as a Corrections Officer at Corrections Camp Cusino which was located in Shingleton. Later that same year she accepted a Prison Counselor position at Marquette Branch Prison, where she worked for approximately 6 years and promoted to Resident Unit Manager. Erica accepted a promotion to Assistant Deputy Warden at the Ojibway Correctional Facility in Marenisco in January of 2000. She transferred to the Ionia Correctional Facility in 2001, which at the time was the state’s only existing Super Maximum facility.
In November of 2011, she was promoted to Deputy Warden at the Ionia Correctional Facility. Erica returned to her Upper Peninsula roots in March of 2105, transferring back to the Marquette Branch Prison as a Deputy Warden in order to be closer to her family. In December of 2017 she was appointed as the Warden of Marquette Branch Prison, becoming the first female warden in Marquette Branch Prison’s 128-year history. Erica currently resides in the city of Marquette along with her 11-year-old son, Rocky, and they often visit their family in Ironwood. She is an active member and serves on the board of the Marquette Rotary Club and assists with annual fundraising events/campaigns for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and for Bay Cliff Health Camp.
